2015 Cool and Warm Season Forage Field Trials NDSU Carrington
Cover Crop Common Species and Properties
Piper Sudangrass
Annual, warm season grass, very palatable and drought tolerant, with similar productivity to sorghum sudan but a much finer stalk so it dries far better, making it well-suited to baling. Scavenges nitrogen so some nitrogen may be added. Only produces one half the prussic acid of sorghum sudan.
Recommended seeding rate of 20 pounds per acre. 1/2 to 1 and a half inch seeding depth.
