Grass Varieties for North Dakota
Grasses for the Northern Plains – Cool Season
Plant Materials for Salt-Affected Sites
Russian Wildrye
Perennial cool season introduced bunchgrass, slower to establish, but provides excellent feed quality as grazing, although basal leaves make it difficult to cut for hay. Retains protein and palatability very late into year. Will grow in a wide range of soil types, with as little as 7 inches of rain, tolerates salinity but not overly wet conditions.
Recommended seeding rate of 6 to 7.5 pounds per acre. 1/4 inch seeding depth.
